The cryptocurrency tether is known as the one that remains and acts in the shadows. However, today it is one of the most used,  even above bitcoin.

All this because this asset, also known as the usdt, is one of the financial vehicles that serve to break through in this vast world.

According to data collected by asset management firm NYDIG, since 2019 around 60% of bitcoin transactions go through usdt first.

To this can be added the fact od the rest of the cryptos that are transferred, which helps to intuit why tether has dominated the market since its launch at the end of 2014. Another aspect that favors the cryptocurrency is that it maintains a fixed value or quite close to the US dollar, with a 1 to 1 parity.

Currently, this asset has a capitalization valued at 60,000 million dollars according to the CoinGecko platform.

The company that issues the usdt is committed to keeping in its balance sheet the same number of dollars in reserve as the tether put into circulation.

The vehicle manufacturer Tesla announced that it decided to invest 1.5 billion dollars in the acquisition of bitcoin, now being a reserve for the future of the company.

After presenting the annual report to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), he also indicated that in the future it is planned to begin accepting this digital asset as a form of payment.

“Thereafter, we invested a total of 1.5 billion in bitcoin under this policy and we can acquire and hold digital assets from time to time in the long term. Furthermore, we hope to start accepting bitcoins as a form of payment for our products in the near future”, said Elon Musk’s company.

This purchase of bitcoin generates much more momentum for the digital asset, which has seen a growth in its value in recent months to the point of being close to $ 50,000 per btc.

The $ 1.5 billion invested by Tesla represents 8 % of the recorded cash and liquid assets, $ 19.4 billion, by the company in December 2020.
