The United Kingdom space agency (UKSA) has signed a memorandum with the American Axiom Space to organize a mission to space composed exclusively of British astronauts.

The mission would cost 230 million euros but would not be financed with public money, according to the BBC. Astronauts will spend up to two weeks in orbit to conduct scientific research, demonstrate new technologies and participate in educational and outreach activities.

UK universities, research institutions and industry are being asked to share their ideas for experiments and technology demonstrations that could be carried out over a two-week period.

Axiom Space offers full-service orbital missions and conducts crewed missions to the International Space Station. To do this, it uses the Crew Dragon capsule and the Falcon 9 launch rocket, both from Space X.

The last UK astronaut to enter orbit was Tim Peake, who flew to the International Space Station as a European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut in 2015.
