The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) expects that in 2025 the production of some foods in the country will increase by 7 %. The items mentioned in the study are oil seeds, cereals and legumes.

According to the local agency, the production of these foods will reach 314.8 million tons. Regarding the end of 2024, the IBGE indicates that “the harvest expected for this year will be carried out on 79.1 million hectares (1.6% more than in 2023)”; while for the year that is about to begin “plantations may increase by 0.8 %, to total 79.8 million hectares”.

The projections also foresee an increase in rice production, by 3.1 % to 10.6 million tons; wheat (8.1 million tons, with an increase of 5 %), soybeans with 12.9 % for 163.5 million tons; corn by 1.7 % to reach 117.5 million tons.

The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IEBG) reported a slight growth of 2.9 % in the GDP of the South American country in 2023.

According to the information released on Friday, March 1, by the IBGE, the agricultural sector showed the greatest expansion last year, “with a year-on-year boost of 15.1 %, mainly due to the growth in production and the increase in productivity.”

The services sector also experienced growth of 2.4 %, thanks, among other factors, to the good performance of financial activities, the insurance and related intermediation services sectors (with an expansion of 6.6 %).

On the other hand, “the secondary sector grew 1.6 % in 2023, positively influenced by the performance of extractive industries, which increased by 8.7 % due to the increase in oil and natural gas extraction.”

In the areas of related activities, such as electricity and gas, water, sewage and waste management, an increase of 6.5 % was seen.

The country also experienced an increase of 3.1 % compared to 2022 in terms of demand, where family consumption spending stands out. At the same time, government consumption spending grew 1.7 %.

According to the IBGE, “gross fixed capital formation contracted 3 %. Meanwhile, imports of goods and services fell 1.2 % in 2023 while exports grew 9.1 %.”

The increase in the number of citizens working, together with the decline in people looking for work in the third quarter of this year, contributed to the fall in the unemployment rate in Brazil.

According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the unemployment rate in the South American country stood at 7.7 %, its lowest level since the beginning of 2015.

The agency’s data, published this Tuesday, indicate: “Between July and September, unemployment fell 0.3 percentage points compared to the second quarter (April-June, 8 %) and one point compared to the same period in 2022.”

The coordinator of the IBGE, Adriana Beringuy, stressed: “The fall in the unemployment rate was induced by the expressive growth in the number of people working and by the retraction of people looking for work in the third quarter.”

In detail, it is indicated that the nation led by Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva counted 8.3 million citizens looking for work in the period from July to September, which is 3.8% less than in the previous quarter and 12.1 % less than in 2022.

The occupancy rate “reached 99.8 million, a record since measurements began in 2012, according to the IBGE. In the July-September period, 929,000 people joined the labor market, a quarterly advance of 0.9 %,” details the IBGE.
