Researchers discovered that cybercriminals began using the ChatGPT Artificial Intelligence (AI) tool, developed by OpenAI, to recreate malware strains and execute malicious software attacks.

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chat developed by OpenAI, trained to hold a text conversation. It is a chat that is based on the GPT 3.5 language model, and in recent days it has surprised people with the naturalness of its responses and its ability to generate and link ideas and remember previous conversations.

To be able to use this chatbot, it is only necessary to have an OpenAI account, where it can be downloaded for free. The accessibility to this tool is what put cybersecurity companies, such as Check Point, on alert.

At the end of last December and given the growing interest in ChatGPT, the technical director of Check Point software, Eusebio Nieva, warned that “anyone with minimal resources and zero knowledge of code can easily exploit it”.

Now, a group of researchers from this cybersecurity company found indications that malicious actors are using ChatGPT to execute malware campaigns following methods commonly used in this type of action, which he collects in a post on his official blog.

Check Point found further evidence of ChatGPT misuse by this threat actor in the creation of a Java snippet. It downloads a common SSH client, putty, and runs it covertly, using Powershell.

The cybersecurity company has commented that earlier this year several threat actors mentioned bad practices with ChatGPT in this type of forum. Then, cybercriminals became more interested in generating counterfeit art with DALL-E 3 and selling it through legitimate platforms such as Etsy.

@Wallet was developed by the TON Foundation, which promotes the development and adoption of the Toncoin (TON) blockchain. The functionality was initially introduced in March of this year, allowing purchases of TON and Bitcoin from Telegram, as well as shipments of said cryptocurrencies between users.

This new development seeks to facilitate transactions for the 700 million users that the messaging platform manages today. Wallet will now have a cryptocurrency trading service between people, better known as “peer-to-peer”

Initially, the service is available for bitcoin and TON exchanges, but the team has outlined plans to expand this offering to more cryptocurrencies in the future.

To sell the tokens, users will be able to post notices on the app. Buyers can select the offers according to their preference and use up to six different fiat currencies, including the US dollar, the euro and the Ukrainian hryvnia, to purchase the cryptocurrencies.

The lnp2pBot software, developed by the Venezuelan programmer Francisco Calderón, makes it easy to acquire bitcoins or exchange them for fiat money and has allowed the platform to obtain a new commercial record.

The developer announced through the social network Twitter “302,127,905 sats have been exchanged through lnp2pBot, a project inspired by the Bitcoin Lightning Network. (…) More than 3 BTC have changed hands without custody and without KYC from the comfort of Telegram”.

In 20 days, the platform achieved the 3BTC mark. that is, “it took a little over three weeks for 100 million satellites to move in lnp2pBot and add to the 2 BTC that was registered at the beginning of May”, while the first BTC was achieved in the month of March 214 days after the launch of the lnp2pBot.

 According to Calderón, the number of people, as well as the large numbers, “play a determining role”, because he demonstrates the “bot’s ability to move millions of satellites”.

It is also important to take into consideration that the Bitcoin Lightning network has increased by 200 % in the last year, facilitating “fast, automatic, cheap exchanges without major limitations.”
