The National Credit Bank (BNC) confirmed through a statement sent by the Superintendency of Institutions of the Venezuelan Banking Sector (Sudeban) the purchase of Banco Occidental de Credito (BOD).

It is expected that as of June 27, BOD clients will be incorporated into the Occidental Discount system, according to the Sudeban statement.

All users and clients of the BOD will be able to carry out their operations in the network of BNC agencies in the national territory and through the digital banking www.bncenlinea.com, maintaining the same conditions, passwords and characteristics in the financial instruments that already possessed in the BOD, under security and confidentiality parameters.

Banks play an essential role within the institutions that make up the National Financial System, since they have high participation and influence in the country’s economic activity.

Considering that SUDEBAN, as a Regulatory Entity, must effectively carry out its role of watching over and protecting the Venezuelan people to carry out their consumption and investment activities, in addition to preserving the interests of the Republic and the stability of the Banking and Financial System Nacional, directed its efforts to examine the joint proposal submitted to this Superintendence by the Banco Occidental de Descuento, Banco Universal, C.A. and the National Credit Bank, C.A., Universal Bank.

These banking entities requested authorization for the acquisition of assets and liabilities of the BOD by the BNC, solely and exclusively registered in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

In this sense, this Regulatory Body carefully evaluated the proposal, with the objective of avoiding the affectation of public deposits and the rights and interests of savers, depositors, clients and creditors; as well as to restore depositors’ confidence, protect the payment system and promote the restructuring and recapitalization of viable banks in the banking system.

In this regard, such alternative obtained the favorable and binding opinion of the Superior Body of the National Financial System. Consequently, the transfer of assets and liabilities between the BOD and the BNC was authorized, so that the users of the BOD will be incorporated as clients of the BNC as of June 27, 2022.

The details of the migration process will be informed through the media of the aforementionedbankinginstitutions.

It is important to point out that all the users and clients of the BOD will be able to carry out their operations in the network of BNC agencies in the national territory and through the digital banking www.bncenlinea.com, keeping the conditions, passwords and characteristics identical in the financial instruments that they already had in the BOD, under security and confidentiality parameters.

Banco Nacional de Crédito, C.A., Banco Universal will carry out the deployment of the necessary personnel in order to resolve requests and questions from the date of transfer, all with the direct supervision of this Regulatory Entity.

Citigroup Inc. reported on Monday, July 12, that it will sell its operations in Venezuela to Banco Nacional de Crédito (BNC), ending more than a century of operations in the country.

The institution has already obtained the necessary permits to carry out this transaction, it only remains to wait to finalize the agreement with the BNC next week, as indicated in a statement.

Citigroup arrived in the country in 1917, establishing its branches in order to provide financial services to international companies that made life in Venezuela.

BNC operates approximately 120 offices, six regional subsidiaries and a branch in Curaçao. According to the statement, the bank will take advantage of the Citigroup acquisition to offer products to Venezuelan companies and multinational corporations.
