The well-known NFT marketplace, OpenSea, announced on August 18 its decision to end its support for one of the main Blockchains, the BNB Smart Chain (BSC). It is important to note that this measure is due to the need to align resources with promising efforts as reported by OpenSea.

Over the past year, OpenSea has listed various Blockchains, including BNB Smart Chain (BSC), after seeing the enthusiasm of the broad NFT ecosystem. However, in line with the evolution of the sector, the company has chosen to focus resources on more promising areas, determining that the costs associated with maintaining support for BSC outweigh its impact, as indicated by OpenSea in its statement.

OpenSea’s recent decision reduces the total number of supported Blockchains to 10, including Arbitrum, Avalanche, BNB, Solana, Ethereum, Klaytn, Optimism, Polygon, Base, and Zora.

As of this moment, it will not be possible to create new listings or place offers on BSC NFTs, although the display, exploration and transfer of these assets on the OpenSea site will continue to be feasible, the platform assured. This measure is presented as a way to direct resources towards rapid innovation in the cryptoecosystem, according to statements by OpenSea.

It is worth mentioning that the BNB Smart Chain, previously known as Binance Smart Chain, is a first layer Blockchain derived from the renowned Binance cryptocurrency exchange.

In addition, OpenSea reported that despite withdrawing support for BSC, the company remains optimistic of a multi-chain future. Additionally, the platform recently enabled support for the Ethereum L2, BuildOnBase, and ourZORA networks.
