Microsoft is working on a presence detection feature for Windows 11, which is capable of identifying if the user is “present, absent, or not interacting” with the device and, in the event of the user’s absence, blocking it and ensuring its security.

The technology company continually develops new tools focused on improving the security and protection of devices, as well as the data stored on these devices.

In this sense, Microsoft is testing a new privacy-focused feature referred to as the Human Presence Sensor, which is based on using a series of sensors that identify whether a user is using the device.

As detailed by Microsoft on the Microsoft Build page, the feature detects whether a user is “present, absent, or not interacting with their device.” Based on this, it allows the device to execute actions such as automatically block itself in order to achieve greater protection, but also greater responsiveness and improved performance.

Thus, when the computer detects that it is “unattended” by the user because it does not identify its presence, it can be automatically blocked to “protect confidential files and other information.”

Another use for this feature is to improve performance with battery life. If your computer freezes every time you no longer sense the user’s presence, you can conserve battery by reducing unnecessary screen idle time.

The publication is part of a reflection made by the billionaire on the future of teleworking and the changes it will undergo as a result of metaverses. Gates believes that the coronavirus radically changed the work process. Now people do not have to attend their jobs, to the point that companies that never considered that option for their employees now work remotely.

According to the co-founder of Microsoft “these changes will only intensify in the coming years and teleworking will attract more and more people to the metaverse” to the point that in the next 2 or 3 years “most virtual meetings will pass from the grids of 2D camera images, to the metaverse, a 3D space with digital avatars.”

Developing the labor metaverse

For Gates, telecommuting limits spontaneous interaction between workers. However, thanks to the metaverse it will be possible, using 3D graphics, “to meet other people in a virtual space that reproduces the experience of being with them in the same place” through personalized avatars.

The alliance between both companies, announced this week as part of SEGA’s Super Games strategy, contemplates the creation of a “new generation development environment” for video games with online functions that use the franchises of the Japanese studio, as assured the entertainment company through a statement.

Using the Azure cloud platform, SEGA’s goal is to “streamline development processes and continue to deliver high-quality experiences to gamers” using Microsoft technologies.

The agreement between both companies contemplates “building new technological evolutions” focused on areas such as network infrastructure and communication tools for online services.

In addition, the use of “a next generation development platform”, as described by SEGA, will allow the studio to adapt to remote work and possible infrastructure changes in the future.
