The Bank of the Republic issued its annual report on remittances to Colombia, where it indicates that in 2022 the sum reached USD 9,429 million.

According to the financial entity, Spain and the United States were the countries from which the largest amount of foreign currency was received in Colombia, with 12.6 % and 53.9 %, respectively, of the total remittances.

Other countries from which remittances were received are Chile and the United Kingdom, with 5.9 % and 2.4 %, respectively, of the total.

The sending of money from Colombians abroad to their families in the South American country showed an increase of 9.67 % compared to the year 2021, when the figure was USD 8,597 million.

According to the Banco de la República report, November 2022 was the period during which the largest remittances were sent to Colombia, reaching USD 894 million. At the end of December, the amount was USD 848 million.

The transactions reached at the end of 2022 show growth in this sector, which has led the Government of Colombia to establish mechanisms that facilitate the sending of remittances from Colombians abroad to their relatives in the territory.
