The former president of Bolivia Evo Morales confirmed his presidential candidacy this Sunday “forced by the Government’s attacks” against his supporters within the ruling party, the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS).

“Compelled by the government’s attacks, its plan to ban the MAS-IPSP and defenestrate us with political processes, including physically eliminating us, we have decided to accept the requests of our militancy and of so many sisters and brothers who attend rallies throughout the country to be a candidate for the presidency of our beloved Bolivia,” Morales has published on his official account of the social network X.

In that sense, he has promised to “confront with truth, dignity and honesty” his dispute with the current president of the country, Luis Arce, whom he has accused of “aggression” from social networks and of planning the disqualification of his supporters within the party.

The smear campaign attempts in some way to link him with drug trafficking, and Morales has assured that, if he fails, the Government will use “a woman” to accuse him of a crime, according to the Bolivian newspaper Correo del Sur.

The former president’s announcement comes just a few days before the holding of the MAS congress in Lauca Ñ, and between October 3 and 5, both the president of the party and the presidential candidate for the 2025 elections will be elected.
