The Minister of Economy and Finance of Peru, José Arista, indicated on Friday, June 14, that the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew 4 % in April and May.

According to the official, the measures implemented by the government have contributed to economic reactivation.

“To get out of the recession that was experienced in 2023, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) is implementing measures to reactivate the economy, through the promotion of public and private investment, simplifying procedures and unblocking bottlenecks, thus generating confidence in investors,” said Arista.

These initiatives are aimed at “reactivating the economy and generating conditions for sustained growth at higher rates.”

He highlighted that in the first quarter of the year, they managed to emerge from a strong recession. The 4 % growth achieved in April and May consolidates “the growth goal of 3.1 % for 2024 and what we want is to enhance that, make our projections robust, so that we do not fall in the second semester. That is why we propose many measures that allow us to make this reactivation sustainable,” the minister stressed.
