The video platform TikTok could be definitively banned in the United States after this Saturday, April 20, the House of Representatives approved legislation in this direction.

According to the media report, the US authorities establish as a condition for allowing the use of TikTok in the country that the Chinese parent company ByteDance disassociates itself from the video platform.

On the other hand, “another regulation is proposed that enables the US Government to appropriate Russian assets frozen in the country worth about 6 billion euros.”

The legal issue regarding the video platform has been prolonged, legislators’ discussions continue, and criticism highlights that a definitive ban threatens freedom of expression.

The legislation will be voted on by the Senate this week. Meanwhile, ByteDance is exhausting all legal instruments “before considering any type of divestment if the TikTok ban becomes law.”
