Google announced that future Android development will be carried out entirely privately, as part of a strategy to simplify the process.

With this move, the technology company will put an end to the discrepancies that exist between the current version of Android and AOSP.

As is known, Google has maintained two main branches of Android: the first is the public branch of AOSP, and the second is the internal development branch. “While AOSP has served as a public repository, most of the development of the core Android framework has been done within Google’s internal branch, accessible only to companies with a Google Mobile Services (GMS) license.”

The company clarified that this decision is not intended to make Android a closed system, but rather to bridge the gap between the two branches and ensure optimal internal workflow. It also emphasized that the change, about which it will provide more details soon, will have minimal impact on users and app developers.
