Google announced that it will apply new quality measures to websites whose content is exclusively generated using artificial intelligence.

Google’s quality raters team will penalize pages where “all or most of the main content is generated using AI” due to a shift in the company’s perception of content that could hide a deceptive purpose, such as profiting the author.

In this sense, pages with AI-generated content will be given the lowest rating, according to John Mueller, senior research analyst and leader of the research department, during his participation in the Search Central Live Madrid 2025 event.

Regarding generative AI, Google has indicated that its proper use does not contradict its principles. However, it has clarified that this does not mean it can be used “to generate content primarily intended to manipulate search rankings.”

In its Search Quality Rater Guidelines published in January of this year, the company stated: “Generative AI can be a useful tool for content creation, but like any tool, it can also be misused.”

Regarding the penalty for pages with content generated exclusively with AI, the technology company has indicated that it extends to the activity of “copying, paraphrasing, embedding, or republishing content” of this type, as it does not provide added value for website visitors.
