Julian Assange, founder of WikiLeaks, was released from prison this Monday after he pleaded guilty to violating the United States Espionage Act and reached an agreement with authorities not to be deported. The sentence was considered fulfilled for the years he spent in prison.

The international media reported on the moment when Assange moved to Australia, his native country, after news of his release in London was known.

The founder of WikiLeaks, 52 years old and in deteriorating health after five years in prison in the UK, escaped extradition to the United States after an agreement to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information.

The release took place at Stanstead Airport on the afternoon of Monday, June 24, where he boarded a plane to leave the United Kingdom.
