The governments of Venezuela and Italy agreed on Friday, April 10, to resume bilateral cooperation, following a meeting in Rome between Italy’s Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Maria Tripodi, and Venezuela’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Oliver Blanco Moros.

This decision was made by Italy after the release of Italian political prisoners held in Venezuela. Tripodi highlighted “the positive evolution of relations, especially in light of the recent release of Italian citizens, which has contributed to reopening a more constructive dialogue between Rome and Caracas.”

Representatives from both countries discussed investment opportunities in the mining sector and the modernization of Venezuela’s industrial sector with the support of Italian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Italy, for its part, expressed its “willingness to organize business missions and strengthen judicial cooperation in the fight against organized crime.”

In this regard, Tripodi stated: “Our two countries can embark on a new phase of bilateral relations, based on trust, economic growth, and concrete cooperation.”
