The cybersecurity company Pradeo has detected a new malicious program that acts as a Google Chrome application in order to collect banking data.

The malware that has already affected more than 100,000 Android users is part of a cyberattack campaign that uses the phishing technique and consists of tricking users into revealing personal information, such as credit card details.

Once the users receive the text message where they are required to pay a customs fee to, supposedly, release the delivery of a package, it leads to a link requesting the update of the Chrome app, the user clicks on item directs you directly to the malicious program.

After the fake application manages to install itself, it starts sending more than 2,000 messages per week to random phone numbers, which helps spread the attack by bypassing spam filters.

Faced with these acts carried out on the web, security experts advise users to resort to platforms such as Google Play to carry out any update as a strictly necessary requirement to avoid being the victim of a cyber attack. Also, they recommend not providing your credit card details to unknown senders.
