The re-establishment of relations between the International Monetary Fund and Venezuela will be evaluated through a survey of the other member countries, adhering to internal regulations.

According to Bloomberg Línea, the consultation was sent last week to the organization’s executive directors, “who in turn forwarded it to the governments they represent.”

Sources cited by the media outlet indicated that the objective is to gather data that will allow for an evaluation of the current state of relations between member countries and Venezuela.

The organization’s internal rules make it clear that it is impossible for Venezuela “to maintain formal contacts or access financing until its government is recognized by a majority of member countries.”

Following the United States’ recognition of Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, the IMF has indicated that it “was working to initiate technical-level interactions” with Venezuelan authorities and institutions in order to obtain basic economic data that would allow for an assessment of the economy.
