Google recently announced that it is moving forward with preparations to end the life cycle of the ChromeOS operating system, launched in 2011, but that it will reach its end in 2034.

ChromeOS gained ground in the education, office, and home sectors thanks to its simplicity and low cost. But Google is betting on evolution and adaptation to changing times.

In this regard, according to sources close to the tech company, the successor will be Aluminum OS, the new operating system that “will be an optimized version of Android adapted for the desktop” in order to “unify efforts and offer a consistent experience across mobile phones, tablets, and computers.”

According to leaked information, “Aluminum OS will include: Full support for Android apps, compatibility with ChromeOS apps, and operation on ARM and x86 architectures,” among other features.

ChromeOS will be phased out starting in 2034. Google estimates it will maintain updates until at least 2033, “fulfilling its commitment to provide 10 years of support for current devices.”
