The Fundación Venemergencia, in conjunction with the Instituto Venezolano de los Seguros Sociales (IVSS) and the Dr. Domingo Luciani General Hospital, held the 3rd Academic Conference “Trauma: From the Scene to the Operating Room” in Caracas. Operating Room”; a training space focused on the exchange of knowledge on the prehospital and medical-surgical management of polytrauma patients.

The event was held in the Mega Room of the Telefónica Tower and brought together more than 150 participants, including nurses, paramedics, physicians, and medical students, all involved in the field of healthcare and medical emergencies.

For Andrea Galarraga, Director of Sustainability at the Venemergencia Foundation, this event represents the embodiment of the organization’s academic work. “We continue to join forces to strengthen the link between prehospital and hospital staff, to provide better care for polytrauma patients, an initiative that promotes access to healthcare through education.”

Leadership in critical situations, trauma scene management, communication in prehospital emergencies, and surgical management of multiple trauma patients were some of the presentations given by physicians and paramedics such as Wilbani León, Roberto Cecchini, Dr. Javier Goncalves, Dr. Cristopher Varela, Dr. Adrián León, and Dr. Jaddink Rosales.

Dr. Andrés Simón González-Silén, executive director and founding partner of Venemergencia, highlighted the importance of this partnership. “For healthcare to be truly universal, we need to work together in public-private partnerships that allow us to fulfill the greatest duty of healthcare professionals: serving people and saving lives.”

For his part, Dr. Cristopher Varela, head of the Multiple Trauma Unit at Domingo Luciani Hospital and one of the main promoters of the activity, spoke about the next steps. “We are strengthening the knowledge of all personnel involved in trauma management, from paramedics to specialized surgeons. This joint effort will allow us to develop training programs that cover all levels of care, from the most basic to the most advanced, such as the PoliT Patient Course, which we will be presenting in the coming months.”

With this 3rd Academic Conference, the Venemergencia Foundation reaffirms its commitment to continuing education and promoting partnerships that strengthen the Venezuelan healthcare system, fostering the training of professionals capable of providing timely, humane, and quality care in emergency situations.
