The new Bitchat messaging app, recently launched by Jack Dorsey, can be used offline. According to the creator of Bluesky and co-founder of Twitter, it’s a Bluetooth mesh network service that doesn’t use servers, accounts, or data collection.

Currently, Bitchat is being tested by a group of 10,000 users. The creator himself indicated on X that it’s an experiment, whose beta version is available on TestFlight. He added that the app “provides ephemeral, encrypted communication without relying on internet infrastructure, making it resilient to network outages and censorship.”

Dorsey emphasized key aspects related to messages, which are stored only on devices and disappear by default; it also allows public chatting “or access to rooms that can be password-protected.”
