Elon Musk officially presented the Cybercab, Tesla’s robotaxi

At a media event held on Thursday, October 10, Elon Musk unveiled the Cybercab robotaxi, from Tesla, with which he intends to revolutionize the sector

Elon Musk made the official presentation of his most recent project: the Tesla Cybercab. It is an autonomous taxi, without a steering wheel or pedals, which could reach the market in 2026 at a cost of 30,000 dollars.

The presentation was made at a media event held on Thursday, October 10 under the name “We, Robots” (We, the robots), at the Warner Bros studios in Burbank, outside Los Angeles and the staging was precisely that of a movie.

Musk personally demonstrated the prototypes, which showed that they are capable of moving around a closed circuit without a driver. According to him, Tesla “will begin producing Cybercabs in 2026 – a deadline subject to regulatory approvals.”

The robotaxis, as the prototypes are called, “will use inductive chargers and will not need plugs. They will also rely solely on cameras and artificial intelligence, without the need for other hardware” that Cybercabs use.

At the event, no data was released on the costs of the models, what the expected profitability of the project is or data related to the investment.

Regarding autonomous driving, Musk mentioned the Y and the Cybercab, for a total of 50 driverless vehicles that night. The tycoon made clear his ambition to create a fleet of self-driving Tesla robotaxis “that passengers can call through an app. Owners of an autonomous car will also be able to earn money on the app by offering their vehicles, and Tesla will take a share of the revenue.”

The other prototype, the Robovan, can transport 20 people and can be adapted for both commercial and personal use, as a school or tourist bus or even as a cargo vehicle.”
