Elon Musk announces the launch of the XChat messaging service

The social network X has integrated the XChat private messaging service, as announced by Elon Musk, with message encryption and the ability to send and receive all types of files, as well as make audio and video calls

Elon Musk announced the availability of the XChat private messaging service for the social network X, which will include, among other features, audio and video calls, the ability to share all types of files, message encryption, a private messaging service, and ephemeral messages.

The platform has been transforming for several years in its quest to become a “do-it-all app, similar to China’s WeChat.”

With the addition of “encryption, disappearing messages, the ability to send any type of file, and audio and video calls,” X also seeks to compete with services like WhatsApp and Signal.

According to Musk, “XChat is built with the Rust programming language and uses what he calls Bitcoin-style encryption, promising a completely new architecture for greater privacy and security” for a more decentralized and cryptographically secure infrastructure.
