ECLAC forecasts light economic growth for Latin America by 2019

The agency estimates that the sub-region's performance will be slightly above 1.5%. With respect to the Caribbean, the figure could reach 2.1%

Through a press release, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) announced the projection of economic growth and expansion of both regions by 2019 with modest rates of 1.8% and 2.1% respectively.

The announcement is based on several factors that currently affect the full development of the economies in the countries that make up the subregions. Among them, the deterioration of the internal financial system, high corporate and sovereign debt, greater need for external financing and a higher proportion of external debt, among others, are noteworthy.

A factor that has been decisive is the escalation of commercial tensions in recent months that will continue to be reflected in global economic activity in 2019.

Undoubtedly, the adverse scenario affects the Latin American and Caribbean peoples. According to the report, economic growth will be linked to the greater or lesser perception of risks as well as domestic demand in 2019.

In any case, both Latin America and the Caribbean will experience a slight growth in their production systems, influenced by the expected global recovery.
