ECB unveiled new 100 and 200 euros bills
The new 100 and 200 euro bills are already in circulation to complete the Europe series that began in 2013 with the five-euro bill. The European Central Bank (ECB) decided to eliminate the 500 euros bill and therefore the 200 is the largest
Paloma Varela, head of the Antifalsification Section of the European Central Bank (ECB), asserts that “these new 100 and 200 euro bills differ in three aspects from the previous ones: they are more practical, more colorful and more secure.“
The 100 euro bills were printed in Spain, France, Germany, Austria and Italy and that of 200 euros in Austria, France and Italy. In Rome, the printing press is located inside the central bank.
It is worth noting that the printing press is surrounded by numerous security cameras, both outside and inside and the access to the place is authorized after passing several police checks and without any mobile device.
The new 100 and 200 euro bills will coexist with the old ones, which will continue to be legal tender. Varela also says that now the design of the tickets is more practical because the size was reduced so that they have the same height as those of 50 euros, which makes it easier to use them.
However, its length was not modified; the higher the value of the ticket, the way to help people with visual impairment is higher. They are also more colorful because they include a range of intermediate tones, between green and yellow, which make them more attractive to the public.
