Next Sunday, October 29, Colombia will hold regional elections. For this reason, the border with Venezuela will remain closed between 6:00 p.m. on October 28 and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

The Colombian authorities have ordered the closure of the river and land border to guarantee the security and proper development of this electoral process, according to a press release.

Colombian citizens must participate to elect “the governors of the 32 departments, 418 deputies who will make up the 32 departmental assemblies, 1,102 mayors, 12,072 councilors from all the municipalities and districts of the country and 6,513 councilors who will make up the Local Administrative Boards.”

In addition to the closure of the river and land border, Colombia will apply, as is customary and to guarantee public order, the dry law from Saturday, October 28 at 6:00 pm until Monday, October 30 at 6:00 in the morning.

At the internal level, during the elections the Ministry of the Interior of Colombia “will designate a national-level official in each department and Bogotá” to monitor the elections as well as the “behavior of public servants, as well as national, departmental and municipal authorities.”
