Create a new Wi-Fi system for home networks

"Easy Mesh" by Wi-Fi Alliance intends that the mesh networks of the home, even if they are from different companies, work together

In order to benefit people who need Wi-Fi in large spaces, the Wi-Fi Alliance has presented to the public a very good initiative with which it’s intended that the mesh networks of the home, even if they are of different companies, work together.

Although a router can transmit the signal from a single location, the idea of ”Easy Mesh” is that in a mesh network, with strong signal in many spaces, people can add networks from any provider.

Kevin Robinson, vice president of marketing for the organization, explained that the background of the project is that more and more people add smart home devices in their homes, and those devices, especially televisions that transmit high-definition content, require robust connections to the Internet.

One of the advantages of EasyMesh, says Robinson, is that someone could “easily add EasyMesh Wi-Fi hotspots, regardless of the provider.”

Manufacturing companies such as TP-Link support this new protocol. Derrick Wang, director of product management at TP-Link USA Corporation, said his company “is working closely with the alliance on the final development of the standard and plans to be one of the first companies to support EasyMesh when it becomes available.”

However, others remain neutral as Google Wifi, who said through a spokesperson that although excited about the idea, they will “monitor the progress of the proposed rule as it evolves.”

For that reason, Robinson pointed out that the Wi-Fi Alliance respects the decisions that companies make and that they want to continue promoting innovation in the field. “Ultimately, any of the certifications that Wi-Fi Alliance develops are optional,” he said.
