Consumers in China increase demand for imported products

A survey by the Ministry of Commerce showed that willingness to buy pays special attention to the brand and factors such as safety, price, design and materials

According to a survey released by the Ministry of Commerce of China, consumers in the country demand more and more imported products, paying special attention to the brand and other factors such as safety, price, design and materials.

“The results of the survey show that imported goods have become an important supplement to the Chinese market”, the ministry reported. In addition, he noted that more than 20% of respondents said that a third of their total purchases come from abroad.

Chinese consumers opt for foreign products, especially in cosmetics (36.1%), maternity and children’s products (33.4%), watches and glasses (28.9%), passenger vehicles (27.3%) and jewelry (22.7%). More than 90% recognized that they choose imported food and maternal and infant products for safety reasons, while 70% referred to quality issues in the rest of the goods. Most of them are acquired digitally.

In addition, about 31% of respondents showed a willingness to increase spending on imported products in the next six months, especially through shopping pages.

For this reason, Chinese firms plan to increase the import of more than 30 products, including wine, fresh fruit, beer, milk, oil, medicines, footwear and sportswear, and outerwear. However, it’s unknown whether these statistics mean a decrease in the consumption of products exported by the nation, that is, of high international consumption.
