Colombia – China Forum will gather together 400 entrepreneurs
The Colombia - China Economic and Commercial Forum organized by the South American country in Beijing and Shanghai will take place on July 30 and 31. About 400 importers, investors and tourism agencies have confirmed its participation
The meeting is part of the official visit of Colombian President Iván Duque, who will lead the promotional activities with the Ministers of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Juan Manuel Restrepo; from Transportation, Ángela María Orozco and Agriculture, Andrés Valencia, as well as Foreign Minister Carlos Holmes Trujillo and the president of ProColombia, Flavia Santoro.
Santoro said in a statement: “We are going to capitalize on new opportunities that allow increasing Colombian exports to a key market such as China, which has 11% of world imports per year and products that Colombia can offer as food and clothing”.
The intention of the trip is also to “attract more tourists and investors” to Colombia. China invests about 124,000 million dollars a year in the world and businessmen in that country have expressed “great interest in Colombia, especially in sectors such as infrastructure, energy and telecommunications,” said the president of ProColombia.
It is worth emphasizing that China has a population that exceeds 1.3 billion inhabitants and a government with the aim of reaffirming its position as a world power by balancing its trade balances with more imports. In addition, there is the growing purchasing power of the Chinese population and its solid middle class.
According to the Bank of the Republic of Colombia, during 2018 the flows of foreign direct investment from China to the country were 32.2 million dollars, which represents 0.3% more than in 2017.
