Chinese app Douyin has more than 500 million users

The platform allows users to create and share videos in as little as fifteen seconds

As TikTok’s battle continues in the face of Donald Trump’s government bans, the Douyin app in China continues to gain subscribers. Currently, it exceeds 500 million users, especially young people between 24 and 30 years old.

The platform allows users to “create and upload short videos in 15 seconds, adding music and endless details to them.” One difference from its international version is that it is more advanced in the integration of electronic commerce. Customers only need one click to purchase the products they see in a video or, if they prefer, take a virtual tour of restaurants or shops in a city.

In addition to offering microblogs, Douyin plans to incorporate the option of “video search” in the short term, which will allow the user to find more videos of a specific provider by simply entering their face or through the virtual purchase of clothing or objects that appear in the image.

Douyin is based on Artificial Intelligence, which allows it to respond to the increasingly sophisticated demands of users. On the other hand, “the customer database allows to refine their algorithms and constantly offer videos increasingly adjusted to the user’s preferences.”

The platform spokeperson emphasizes that it is a tool designed for entertainment and fun, as well as strengthening electronic commerce among its users.
