China plans to launch satellite constellation with AI

A group of scientists from the Asian country works on the most ambitious project so far, based on the benefits of artificial intelligence

China‘s plans for innovation include the launch of a constellation of satellites with Artificial Intelligence. It will be a total of 192 state-of-the-art devices that are expected to operate autonomously.

The information was released through the Central Television of China. It was known that the launch of remote sensing satellites is planned for the year 2021.

“Artificial intelligence technology will process the images captured by the satellites, which will have sensors with multiple resolutions, which will allow low-quality images to be filtered so that only useful data is sent to Earth,” according to the media.

It is expected that the scientists working on this project – called Leo – equip the system with the ability to fly autonomously thanks to the advances of the AI.

Once the entire project is finished, the Chinese authorities hope that through the satellites they will obtain data for “environmental monitoring, disaster prevention and mitigation and traffic management”.
