China is a giant in Artificial Intelligence

China counted a total of 1,122 companies dedicated to the development of Artificial Intelligence technologies, which places the country as number two worldwide, behind the United States

Investment in Artificial Intelligence in China reached 31,700 million dollars in the first half of this year, a figure that accounted for almost three quarters of the world total (72.9%).

The researcher of the Chinese Academy of Information and Communication Technologies, Zhang Xueli, said that despite the explosive growth of recent years, Chinese companies are still not able to compete with international giants in terms of technologies.

According to Zhang, China has more application-oriented companies but fewer that focus on research and development, specifically in the field of Artificial Intelligence chips.

The Chinese government launched a plan at the end of 2017 with which it aims to become a world leader in AI by 2030, by applying these technologies to sectors such as industry, urban planning, agriculture or defense.

The strategy requires that the production of technology related to Artificial Intelligence reach 22,000 million dollars in 2020, 60,000 million in 2025 and 147,000 million in 2030, to place the Asian nation as one of the leading countries in the sector and in its application.
