China develops submarines with artificial intelligence

The Chinese government has invested in submersibles focused on the security and defense of the nation

Scientists from China are working on the development of unmanned submarines from the incorporation of artificial intelligence for the defense of the nation. They will include diesel-electric propellers with the potential to ram enemy ships.

It is a long-term project, because they foresee that they will be ready in ten years. With these submersible robots they do not intend to replace current, fully active and efficient submarines.

These submersibles with AI will operate autonomously in the South China Sea and in the Pacific, areas that the Asian country disputes with its neighbors and with the United States.

The technological advances incorporated into these submarines will allow them to perform maneuvers such as changing the depth or route to evade radars, select a faster route to the final destination or determine if they are in front of a civil or military ship.

Given the concern of military attacks, scientists have stressed that although the submarines will be autonomous, they will maintain a periodic contact with the headquarter to update their mission.
