China cuts video game hours

The Chinese government announced that it will cut the time minors can be involved in this activity to three hours, which would help prevent addiction

China tightened its policy to combat video game addiction in its underage citizens and has reduced the amount of time they can play to up to three hours a week, with a maximum of one hour a day and only on weekends.

This is stated in a document presented by the state administration of the press and publications of China, as collected by the local Xinhua agency, in which it is proposed to tighten the limitations of playing time already existing in the Asian country, with the aim of protecting physical and mental health of minors.

In 2019, China had approved a regulation that prevents young people from playing more than 90 minutes a day, and that prevents them from playing at night, from 10:00 at night until 8:00 in the morning. After that limit, the online game ends automatically for these users.

The latest proposed regulation is even more restrictive and only allows young people to play on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, as well as holidays, and only one hour each day: between 9:00 and 10:00 at night.

Minors are not allowed to gamble online at any other time but the one fixed, and services of this type will be obliged to make minors register in their accounts always and do so with their real name to prevent them from exceeding the limit.
