Chilean banking sector obtained USD 1,302.5 million benefits

Chilean banking reached profits of 1,302.5 million dollars in the first four months of this year, which represents 2.87% more than in the same period of 2018

The profit for April was 279,754 million pesos, about 413 million dollars, and its increase with respect to March is explained by the growth of the interest margin, the net commissions of the result of financial operations and a reduced expense in taxes.

The results as of April 30 were led by Banco Santander, controlled by its Spanish namesake, which obtained profits of  266.50 million dollars.

The second place was for Banco de Chile, controlled by the Luksic group, which obtained profits of about 236 million dollars.

In third place is the Banco de Crédito e Inversiones (BCI), controlled by the Yarur family, with profits of 157,407 million pesos or about 232.85 million dollars.

Scotiabank Chile, controlled by its Canadian namesake, was in fourth place, with earnings of 109,007 million pesos that represents 161.25 million dollars.

The report also notes that in April, consumer loans increased by 0.63% compared to March, by 1.80% compared to December 2018 and by 17.06% compared to April 2018. For their part, housing loans increased 0.40% from the previous month.
