Chile launches innovative solution to polluting plastic bags

The Chilean company SoluBag created a soluble product from a non-polluting limestone

The need to protect the environment from the negative effects produced by the accumulation of plastic containers and bags led the Chilean company SoluBag to develop an ecological solution. It is a water-soluble plastic bag made from a non-polluting limestone.

The bag is free of contaminating and harmful components such as those known up to now, derived from oil and that incorporate pesticides and other elements harmful to humans, animals, land and water.

The creators of the bioedegradable bag are Roberto Astete and Cristian Olivares, who have indicated to the media that they expect the commercialization of the product to begin in October of this year.

It is important to highlight Chile is the first country in Latin America that banned the use of plastic bags last May. The new alternative is made with a chemical formula that contains polyvinyl alcohol, which is a non-polluting soluble polymer.

The technology used to produce these environmentally friendly bags allows to regulate the temperature at which it dissolves, to avoid that only a few drops cause the bag to break and become useless to the user.
