Central Bank of Russia to block fraudulent websites

The director of the institution said that she recently requested a patent to apply sanctions against fraudulent websites

Elvira Nabiullina, director of the Central Bank of Russia, said she made a request to the authorities to block websites that are considered fraudulent.

Specifically, the director wants those organizations that dedicate themselves to offering financial services without a license, or that disseminate information pretending to be authorized sites, to be blocked from Internet.

Experts believe that this action will have strong consequences for those who engage in financial activities on a freelance basis in Russia. This would cause people to migrate to the use of alternate VPNs.

On the other hand, there are many who applaud this initiative, among which stands out the vice president of the Russian Bank Association, Elman Mekhtiev, who assured that this measure would help to protect consumer rights.

However, Artem Kozlyk, head of RoskomSvoboda, showed his refusal to the proposal in view that hackers could easily evade the measures and these could wrongly affect sites that do comply fully with the law.
