Cavefar reports 10 % increase in national drug consumption

During the month of February, national drug consumption grew 10% year-on-year, according to a recent statement by Alicia Pinedo, president of the Venezuelan Chamber of Pharmacies

The president of the Venezuelan Chamber of Pharmacies (Cavefar), Alicia Pinedo, reported a 10 % year-on-year increase in national drug consumption in February.

Pinedo noted that 85 % of the drugs consumed in the country are domestically manufactured, emphasizing that “most of the drugs sold are generics, which are primarily sold by independent pharmacies.”

She highlighted the success of generic products, as customers obtain a cheaper product with the same quality.

The president of Cavefar has participated in working groups with representatives of the national government and the Vice Presidency of Science, Technology, and Health on topics such as the supply of essential medicines, health oversight, and digitalization to automate all procedures, ensuring traceability and prompt response.
