CAT introduces first antibacterial phone

The company, using silver ions in the manufacturing process, created a device that does not store as many bacteria as other devices generally do

The Caterpillar company launched its new mobile device called CAT S42, which is considered the first to use Biomaster antimicrobial technology.

By using silver ions in the manufacturing process, the company succeeded in creating “a permanent level of product protection, inhibiting the growth of microbes on the surface of the phone and thereby reducing microbial levels on its surface.”

According to research conducted over time, smartphones tend to store thousands of germs, to the point of having stored up to 17,000 bacteria according to research from the University of Michigan.

“Biomaster antimicrobial protection has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacterial cells: tests showed a reduction of more than 80 % in 15 minutes and 99.9 % in 24 hours,” the company details.

Another advantage of this device is that it can be washed thoroughly and regularly with soap and water, and even apply a disinfection process with bleach.

“Using a Cat device gives us confidence that it can be washed and disinfected regularly or between visits. The addition of antimicrobial product protection to the Cat S42 is a first for Cat phones, and will make the Cat S42 safer for users, a very important feature at the moment,” concludes the company.
