Candidate from Brazil finds support on blockchain technology

Fernando Haddad inscribed his candidacy using blockchain technology to avoid alterations in the records

The candidate for the presidency of Brazil, Fernando Haddad, announced that he registered his candidacy using blockchain technology.

The Brazilian argued that he made this decision in view that, thanks to the nature of the blockchain, the records can not be altered or eliminated so that the “fake news” phenomenon would be avoided at all costs.

The company in charge of making this record was OriginalMy, a startup that in its moment launched its own cryptocurrency called Decord in 2016.

Haddad was not the only one to do this, in the first round of the Brazilian elections two other candidates did the same. They were Joao Amoedo and Marina Silva, who also registered using blockchain technology.

This tool has become very common in electoral processes in several regions of the world,  thanks to the fact that for its nature it helps to avoid corruption and controversy.
