Brussels approves purchase of fintech Nets by Mastercard

The purchase refers to most of the corporate services of the Danish fintech

The European Commission approved this Monday the request of the American credit card company, Mastercard, to acquire most of the corporate services of the Danish payment platform Nets.

According to the information provided by the international organization, the approval is subject to the purchase of a license for the basic infrastructure for the provision of services from account to account of Nets, as well as the transfer of relevant personnel and other assets.

For Margrethe Vestager, Executive Vice President of the Commission and Head of Competition, “the decision taken this Monday guarantees that effective competition is preserved and facilitates the emergence of new providers of payment services in real time in the European Economic Area.”

It is important to note that this agreement has been in negotiations between the two companies since the beginning of the month.

The main objective of this negotiation is to acquire most of the Danish fintech’s corporate services, including its real-time payment platform and electronic invoicing, for 2.85 billion euros.
