During the G7 Summit in Belfast, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva met with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to negotiate a Mercosur-Japan trade agreement.
Regarding these negotiations, the joint statement notes that “the two leaders announced the launch of negotiations for the Economic Partnership Agreement between Mercosur and Japan.”
Further announcements on a free trade agreement are expected during the bloc’s next summit in La Asunción on June 30.
