Boris Johnson asks the EU for more cooperation in Brexit case

The British Prime Minister made the request to the European Union in the event that an agreement is not reached by October 15

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called on the European Union for greater cooperation in the talks given the prospect of reaching the date of October 15 without having reached an agreement, although he has assured that the absence of a pact would be a “good result “for UK.

In a statement to be made this Monday and advanced by the Press Association news agency, Johnson has assured that if an agreement is not reached at the October European Council, the two parties should be prepared to accept that scenario and “move on.”

Exiting the European Union without a trade agreement, in Johnson’s view, would also be a “good result.” The British Prime Minister will also ensure that the country will have a trade agreement with the European Union “like Australia’s”, which implies that it would be based on those established by the World Trade Organization (WTO).

“I want to be absolutely clear because, as we have said from the beginning, that would be a good result for the UK,” Johnson said in his message on Monday. “As a government we are preparing to be ready at our borders and in our ports,” he argues, before making it clear that the British will have “full control” of their legislation and their waters.

The British chief negotiator, David Frost, assured this Sunday that the United Kingdom has nothing to fear in the face of a scenario without a Brexit agreement. “I don’t think we’re scared by it at all,” Frost said in an interview published by The Mail on Sunday. “We are not going to commit ourselves to what is fundamental, which is to have control of our own laws,” he said.

If the European Union and the United Kingdom do not reach an agreement to set the framework for future relations, they would enter a no-deal Brexit scenario, with an abrupt economic breakdown and recovering border issues such as tariffs.
