Blockchain technology applied in space research
NASA will apply it in the development of autonomous spacecraft to detect and evade space debris
NASA seeks to minimize the time that researchers invest in monitoring the spacecraft route to avoid space debris in its course, in addition to collecting relevant data.
For this they are financing a project led by Dr. Jin Wei Kocsis, from the University of Akron, whose objective is to use blockchain technology in the automation of spacecraft maneuvers and to make them autonomous in the future. This procedure will also optimize communications and navigation.
Dr. Jin Kocsis has indicated that through blockchain technology of Ethereum will develop “a safe and decentralized computer infrastructure and cognitive networks for the exploration of deep space.”
According to Thomas Kacpura, manager of NASA’s advanced communications program, the success of this initiative will trace the future of next-generation space networks.
