Bithumb $30 million crypto exchange hack

The second South Korean exchange suspended the operations of deposits and withdrawals after the cyber attack

The suspension of all the operations of Bithumb, the second South Korean exchange of cryptocurrencies, after the hacking of its platform and the theft of 30 million dollars in assets, caused outrage in the users.

The measure to suspend deposits and withdrawals applied by the company, based in Seoul, seeks to protect customers while conducting the relevant investigation to determine the perpetrators of the alleged cyber attack. Bithumb indicated via social networks that they are changing their wallet for security measures.

Through its official Twitter account, @BithumbOfficial, the company published the news, asked its members to refrain from carrying out operations. They offered apologies for the inconvenience caused by the measure and asked for their understanding of the contingency they are suffering.

Once again, the security of online transactions in cryptocurrencies is threatened and affected by criminals in the digital universe. In the case of the South Korean exchange, the sum amounts to 30 million dollars. Although they did not indicate which cryptocurrencies were targeted, they did point out that they will be backed with Bithumb. For the moment, all assets were sent to the cold wallet.

Bithumb is currently the sixth crypto exchange in the world. The assault and theft of assets require the implementation of rigorous security measures and offer clients protocols for transparent and reliable operations.
