Barclays will have a new president

The board of directors of the British institution appointed Crawford Gillies to replace Ian Cheshire

The board of directors of the Barclays banking group decided that Crawford Gillies, a director of the company, will replace Ian Cheshire as chairman of the bank’s operations in the United Kingdom from January 1st 2021.

Cheshire will hold a chair on the group’s board of directors until May next year to ensure that the leadership transition does not affect the business.

The executive preferred to leave his post because he has been “unable” to dedicate the sufficient time required by Barclays’ future plans in the United Kingdom, where the bank will have to position itself to “help” clients in the face of the recovery of the economy of the effects of Covid-19.

Upon his appointment as Chairman, Crawford will cease to be a senior independent director of the company and will be replaced by Brian Gilvary. However, he will continue to chair the council’s compensation committee until March 1st, when he will also be relieved by Gilvary.

On the other hand, the company noted that Julia Wilson will join the group’s board as a non-independent director from April 1 st, 2021. Wilson is the CFO of 3i Group. He also sits on the board of directors of Legal & General Group, which he will leave in March next year.
