Banco Consorcio reports millionaire losses after cyberattack

The Chilean entity claimed to have suffered the theft of about two million dollars which did not hardly affected the client portfolio

The Chilean entity Banco Consorcio recently suffered a cyberattack where it lost at least two million dollars.

In spite of everything, this attack did not affect to a great extent the client’s portfolio of the financial institution. At the moment, the authorities are investigating the facts.

“Third parties not yet identified intervened in the entity’s system of international transfers, with the purpose of maliciously generating charges in a Banco Consorcio’s own account that it maintains in a correspondent from abroad”, the researchers indicated.

What happened generated an alert in the Superintendency of Banks and Financial Institutions (SBIF), which assured that they gave “notice of the situation to other authorities for the purposes of the global monitoring of the Chilean financial system.” Through the recently issued regulations and the management in the last 48 hours, has put the entire banking system on alert to ensure that the incident remains contained in the institution, without major effects.”

The banking platforms, after this event, are in full alert and are taking measures that avoid, as far as possible, a new hack.
