Audi announces temporary closure of its plants

Due to the pandemic that the world is going through due to the coronavirus, the German automaker made this decision that will affect 60,000 employees

The German manufacturer Audi, belonging to the group of the German automaker Volkswagen, will gradually close until the end of this week its plants in the German cities Ingolstadt and Neckarsulm, as well as in Belgium, Mexico and Hungary.

The statement says that “there will be production interruptions in most of the Volkswagen Group plants”, in view of the marked deterioration in sales and the emerging uncertainty of parts supply.

“The current situation forces us to take the announced measures and will continue to demand a lot of flexibility and solidarity on our part,” said Peter Kössler, member of the production and logistics council.

Kössler reported that production at the announced plants will cease from next Monday due to the spread of the coronavirus throughout Europe and other parts of the world. This measure was agreed between the works council and the Volkswagen Group.

Around 60,000 people live in the different factories of Audi in the world, at the moment it is not known how much this will affect these employees.
