AT&T is sued over a millionaire cryptocurrencies hack

The telecommunications giant is accused of negligence in helping the hacker obtain the information for the theft amounting to 24 million dollars

The telecommunications company AT&T has been sued for the alleged theft in cryptocurrencies for an amount of 24 million dollars. The plaintiff is Michael Terpin, who argues that the company allegedly engaged in negligence in providing their data to the hacker in this crime.

AT&T was also accused of breach of the privacy policy causing damage to the client, for which it could receive “$ 200 million in punitive damages and $ 24 million in compensation from the company.”

The lawsuit was filed by Terpin before the District Court of Los Angeles. The cause joins the increasing demands for this type of crimes that are occurring around the world today, and that involve cryptocurrencies.

An important fact in the case is that Terpin is a person with extensive knowledge in the area of digital currencies, as he is co-founder of the group of bitcoin investors called BitAngels (2013).

The plaintiff understands the scenario that AT&T created, allowing the cybercriminal to act without problems and steal the cryptocurrencies, since it did not ask for a password when entering the platform.
