Artificial intelligence helps in the prevention of crimes

The development of prevention systems based on artificial intelligence will continue in 2019 to prevent street assaults, cases of pedophilia, pronography in the network, fraud, data theft and much more

The work of the authorities and investigative bodies in the prevention of crime is complicated. Currently, they use modern applications, computer programs and various devices based on artificial intelligence to optimize processes that can take hours, days, weeks and even years.

Resolving each case in the shortest possible time is the commitment of governments, particularly in the United States and most countries in Europe. Each nation seeks to implement surveillance systems and programs for the prevention of fraud, sexual harassment or pedophilia, data theft, as well as street robberies and other crimes.

An example worth mentioning comes from Holland, through the association Terre des Hommes, where a program-bait for pedophiles was designed. The program is called Sweetie and consists of a chat with a fake girl. In just 10 weeks this program allowed to identify at least a thousand criminals from a group of 20,000. After the success of Sweetie in 2013 its use was extended to other countries.

Other programs, cameras and sensors use artificial intelligence to identify suspects and collect characteristics that go to a database to be classified and facilitate the work of the authorities in a universe of millions of alleged criminals.

Advanced algorithms that currently provide millions of images will continue to be refined with the help of government agencies, universities and research institutes to help prevent crime and accelerate recognition processes for suspects, as well as providing peace of mind to citizens.

Surveillance systems are activated around the world to prevent theft, assault and crime

In Europe, there are thousands of streets, avenues, airports, office buildings and other open spaces such as amusement parks or stadiums and concert areas where biometric face recognition cameras have been installed as security measures.

Prevention is the key word. In fact some specialists talk about “precrime” to refer to the detection of crimes with the help of the data collected by the AI. The British police is a pioneer in this regard, with its National Data Analytics Solution (NDAS) preventive system. The data collected allows identifying individuals with a pattern of violent behavior and preventing their recidivism.

Undoubtedly, advances in this area based on AI will continue in 2019, aimed at establishing indicators that help prevent criminal acts, assaults or even false accusations that also occur throughout the world.
