Arce promises an “austere” government

The president-elect of Bolivia announced that his administration is expected to be "severe", with economic recovery being one of its main objectives

The president of Bolivia, Luis Arce, announced the composition of his new government, a cabinet that will be “extremely austere” in the words of the president and in which no names appear in the first political line during the Evo Morales Administration, beyond some vice minister.

Arce, former Minister of Economy during Morales’ last stage, highlighted economic recovery as one of his main objectives, considering that he considers that the Government of Jeanine Áñez “did not leave the Bolivian financial scene well”.

“It is not only recovery, but reconstruction of the economy. That is why we have resorted to the best we could bring to work as a team, as a family, because what remains for Bolivians is only to work to get out of the crisis”, indicated the new president.

Arce will have as his main ally Vice President David Choquehuanca, who also held ministerial positions in the previous stage of the Movement for Socialism (MAS) in power. Along with them will be a cabinet “up to the challenges,” according to the new president.

The economic team will be led by Marcelo Montenegro Gómez as head of Economy and Finance. Between 2017 and 2019, he held the presidency of the Productive Development Bank (BDP) and has experience in the management of several public companies, reports El Deber.
